The 2015 Porsche Boxster Spyder (981) is widely regarded as the most focused and thrilling version of the Boxster ever made. It combines purist driving dynamics with a healthy dose of performance pedigree.

At its heart is a 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine borrowed from the 911 Carrera S, producing 375 hp — a huge step up from the standard Boxster and even the GTS. Crucially, it’s paired only with a 6-speed manual gearbox, underlining its commitment to driver involvement.

The chassis is lowered by 20mm, with suspension tuning shared with the Cayman GT4, giving it razor-sharp handling. Porsche stripped out unnecessary luxuries to save weight: it has a manual folding fabric roof, lightweight bucket seats, and fabric door pulls, enhancing the car’s raw, motorsport-inspired feel.

Despite its minimalist setup, it retains modern performance credentials: 0–60 mph in about 4.3 seconds and a top speed over 180 mph — with the roof down.

What truly sets it apart is the blend of 911 performance, GT-car dynamics, open-top driving, and rarity — with fewer than 2,500 units reportedly made worldwide, it’s as much a collector’s car as it is a weekend weapon.
